Formed in 1997, Digitalbrain has become one of the leading providers of learning platforms, e-content and portal architecture to public and private organisations.

Working closely with regional broadband consortia, including the London Grid for Learning and the East of England Broadband Consortia and some 50 LA’s and private sector organisations, Digitalbrain has been at the forefront of the advent of e-learning.
Our key school solution, Learning Manager, provides schools with an online learning platform. Learning platforms are increasingly being used by schools to help address the wide range of government initiatives such as personalised learning, social inclusion, increased parental involvement and addressing the 14-19 agenda.

Shropshire’s 14-19 Pathfinder Project was established to facilitate collaboration between schools, colleges and partner agencies to enhance and extend opportunities for learners. The overarching goal was to provide an effective virtual community to overcome the communication difficulties faced by isolated rural populations.
Digitalbrain and ICT are used to support collaborations in the area, which although large is sparsely populated. Virtual communities and remote learning can help to compensate for some of the difficulties of rurality.
The Pathfinder Project therefore hopes to:
  • Build on existing 14-19 area partnerships to extend Shropshire’s unique working relationship with the fifteen Higher Education Institutions who provide programmes of study within the county
  • Create a virtual community for Shropshire students, teachers and trainers through a common Managed Learning Environment (MLE)
  • Promote e-learning to increase the range and flexibility of curriculum access, delivery and assessment
  • Reduce the effects of students learning in isolated locations
Digitalbrain also fully supported the North West Shropshire Education Action Zone, now The Excellence Cluster. This aims to offset rural isolation, raise attainment and expectations and find new ways of working. These aims relate to the following programme objectives:
  • A much wider use of ICT
  • Increased out of hours opportunities
  • Improved support for family learning
  • Intensive support to improve standards of literacy and numeracy
  • Much more scope for gifted and talented pupils to excel
  • Overcoming barriers to social inclusion
  • Developing improved partnerships and by ensuring that teaching consistently matches the challenges of the zone
  • Managing new partnerships and developing management and leadership skills
